Kitchen Cabinets_Episode 9 | The Big Reveal!

WooHoo, the kitchen is done and with that brings an end to this #RealtorRehab project.  It has been a long eight weeks, but in the end, the work was worth the results.  Take a look for yourself:

WHAT DID WE USE:  Amazon was my friend during this #RealtorRehab.  Those hinges were an amazing find and when I bought the hinges, they were on sale and quite a bit less than what is shown below.  I felt like we did GOOD on the budget department.  Truly, had the doors not bled through, we would have been under budget.  Trying to fix that debacle, I used a whole gallon and about 1/4 of a second gallon.  That’s about $100 for the two, so you do the math 🙂

WHAT DID WE LEARN:

  1. Patience, patience, more patience, LOL
  2. Perfecting technique and the order in which to approach a cabinet redo
  3. Teamwork – we had our intense moments, but for the most part, my husband and I worked well together
  4. Hinges – well my husband learned this 🙂  As a previous client calls it, he attended You Tube University and learned the proper way to install hinges and level the doors
  5. We need new countertops much sooner than I thought, HA!  I knew these 1989 countertops were hideous, but they have never looked quite as bad as they do now with the fabulous looking cabinets.  If you know someone that sells and installs countertops, tell them to EMAIL ME because I have a marketing idea that could help them and me 🙂

WHAT CAN YOU LEARN FROM US:

  1. Expect the Unexpected – there is going to be a hiccup in every project you do, so just be prepared before you begin
  2. Patience – I keep saying this, but it is really important because of my next point…
  3. Don’t Rush the Process – if you lose your patience you’ll rush and get in a hurry and mess something up. It’s better to take your time and do it right
  4. If You Mess Up, Fix It – don’t try to rush (see above 😉 and move on.  Take the time necessary to fix the problem.  Just like with the bleed through on the doors.  It would have been so easy for me to just move on, but after so much time and effort to get it right, I took a breath and fixed it
  5. Choose Wisely – the trend right now is colored bottom cabinets but if you’re going to be selling your house sooner rather than later, maybe hang on to that idea for your next house.  Stick with classic, multi-functional colors.  Just because you love a purple kitchen doesn’t mean the next person will, so instead of painting the bottoms purple, accessorize in purple instead.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

Life Isn’t Like Television – At the end of all the rehab shows, you typically see a completely finished, show ready room.  You’ll notice that you did not get that there.  That’s because in real life, you can’t always find the perfect hand towels or rug in the time allowed.  Or maybe you cannot afford the new countertops right away…and that’s ok!  One step at a time.
