5 Cleaning Hacks to Help Fake a Clean House Fast!

By in Selling with 0 Comments

When you decide it’s time to join the Project Sell My House movement, you know there is a laundry list of things you need to have done before putting it on the market, but did you know, you also need a laundry list while you sell your home?  Before you start rolling your eyes and rethinking your decision to sell you home, hear me out.

You’ve worked so hard to get your house ready to show, but now that it’s actually time for it to be shown, you’ve got to keep it that way, because showings can be scheduled with very little notice.  When that happens, there is no time to clean the house so fake it ’til you make it with these 5 cleaning hacks.

Cleaning Hacks

Cleaning Hack #1: Clean Up the Kitchen

Whether you cook breakfast in the morning or you do it after dinner each night, make sure you completely clean up the kitchen as soon as you’re done.  Put the dishes in the dishwasher, wipe off the counter tops, clean the appliances you used, and sweep the floor.  BAM, it’s ready!

Cleaning Hack #2: Clean the Bathrooms

Ok, don’t start yelling at me through the computer.  When you sell your home, you don’t have to deep clean every day, but at least make it look presentable.  After your shower, do a quick wipe of the area to remove any hair.  As you finish getting ready each morning, grab a towel and wipe down the toilet too…you don’t want it to be a turn off!  Lastly, put your stuff away that you use to get ready and wipe off any makeup you may have gotten on your bathroom sink or counter top and don’t forget the spittle on the faucet and mirror 😉  Oh, and make sure the hand towel is neat and presentable.  Another room DONE and it should only take you an extra minute or two each day.

Cleaning Hack #3: Put the Clothes & Toys Away

This is something you can do in the evenings.  When you sell your house, the objective is to show it off in it’s best condition, so to do that, you’ve got to keep the mess to a minimum.  Each night before you and the kids go to bed, have them pick up their toys and put them away neatly.  Mom & Dad, you’ve got to do the same thing, but with your clothes.  Don’t just throw your work clothes in a corner or over a chair.  Put them away as soon as you take them off!

Cleaning Hack #4: Make your Beds

Maybe you do this even when your not in Project Sell My House mode, but if you don’t, then start!  Every bed should be made before you walk out the door each morning.  This gives a very neat and clean appearance, even if you have a little dust on your dresser.

Cleaning Hack #5: Vacuum or Sweep

So I know that this is probably the least easiest task to get done when you’re running out the door in the mornings, but it is doable and makes a big difference when you sell your house, especially if your floor is dirty.  Remember, you already swept the kitchen after dinner last night, so that most likely leaves the living room and bedrooms and, if they need it, bathrooms.  The bathrooms are small, so that’s a quick job.  You will probably need a few extra minutes to hit the bedrooms and living room, but it will be worth it!

The bottom line is that when you sell your house, there are sacrifices you have to make if you want to get top dollar for it.  Start with a deep cleaning of your house from top to bottom.  After that, when you follow these cleaning hacks, it will be a cinch to keep it looking good the entire time it’s on the market for sale.  Now, the everyday sacrifice may not be super fun, but hopefully it’s only for a short amount of time.  Once your home goes under contract, you can go back to your daily routine.  It’s a small price to pay to make that all important first impression with potential buyers. I say it all the time.  When you sell your home:

You only get one chance to make a First Impression!
